Needle Felting with Artist Allen West

Felt is one of the oldest methods of fabric construction, but in this workshop we’ll be learning beginner techniques of needle felting. Needle felting is a modern method that creates form and structure through the repeated punching of wool with a notched needle. During the workshop, students will produce one or two felt illustrations while learning about the history of felt and the differences in needles and wool. We’ll be working two-dimensionally on industrial felt in the same method used to produce some of the work on display in the gallery.

Materials will be provided, as well as reference material to peruse for their design. However, if students have an idea in mind for what they’d like to make, they are encouraged to bring in a simple design or drawing to use.
