AFTER SCHOOL

Our new STEAM ED After School program starts February 25 and runs Monday through Friday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Each day’s activities correspond with the letters in STEAM–science, technology, engineering, art/design, math.

Each session is $25 ($20 each with a pre-paid STEAM ED Discount Card).

Our Pay-What-You-Can Sliding Scale Policy still applies. Drop ins welcome, registration encouraged.

2/25- SCIENCE MONDAY
Learn how to make Oobleck, a non-Newtonian fluid, that acts like a liquid when being poured, but like a solid when a force is acting on it.

2/26- TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY
Learn how to use Tinkercad by making a 3D printed name tag that you can wear every time you join us for some after school STEAM fun.

2/27- ENGINEERING WEDNESDAY
Learn how to engineer helicopters using everyday desktop items like rubber bands and paper clips.

2/28- ARTS THURSDAY
Let’s get creative and repurpose some cardboard into stamps. We will then take those stamps and learn the basics of block printing.

3/1- MATHEMATICS FRIDAY
Create a beautiful tetrahedron cluster and learn a lot about geometry along the way!

3/4- SCIENCE MONDAY
Learn the basics of LED technology by creating a light up helicopter from recycled mailing envelopes.

3/5- TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY
Learn the basics of Tinkercad by making your very own custom designed cookie cutter.

3/6- ENGINEERING WEDNESDAY
Let’s learn how to recycle those plastic straws into slingshot rockets.

3/7- ARTS THURSDAY
Learn about the different colors found in nature by making paint with fresh berries.

3/8- MATHEMATICS FRIDAY
Learn how to make a perfect paper cube using basic math and recycled card stock.

3/11- SCIENCE MONDAY
Learn how to use Borax to make a colorful crystal garden.

3/12- TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY
Learn how to code patterns in Tinkercad

3/13- ENGINEERING WEDNESDAY
Learn the power and delight of building a custom designed hydraulic machine.

3/14- ARTS THURSDAY
Let’s have fun marbling homemade paper using food dye and shaving cream.

3/15- MATHEMATICS FRIDAY
Repurpose an old Altoids tin into an easy to use abacus, the original counting tool.

3/18- SCIENCE MONDAY
Let’s make a garden in a bottle, otherwise called a terrarium, that is self-watering.

3/19- TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY
Learn about the geometric art of the Spirograph by making your own custom design using Tinkercad.

3/20- ENGINEERING WEDNESDAY
Let’s have a fun lesson in air powered thrust and inertia by making a propeller powered car. We’ll create a challenging race track using cardboard and have some fun races.

3/21- ARTS THURSDAY
Let’s practice the ancient art of origami by creating some colorful intersecting planes in a 3D place.

3/22- MATHEMATICS FRIDAY
Learn how to use a computer and some math to create animated GIFs and HTML5.

3/25- SCIENCE MONDAY
Today we’ll learn how to make a kazoo out of rubber bands and popsicle sticks. We will then have some fun making music with our homemade instruments.

3/26- TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY
Let’s get creative and make a PSA using stop motion animation, a film making technique that makes inanimate objects appear to move on their own.

3/27- ENGINEERING WEDNESDAY
Let’s get creative and engineer a Biddefordinspired marble run out of cardboard

3/28- ARTS THURSDAY
Learn how fossils are made without having to wait 100 years. We will create our own mold and cast fossils, then pretend we are Maine archaeologists and study the fossil.

3/29- MATHEMATICS FRIDAY
Let’s explore the lost art of using compasses by making our own by using math and a few household items.
