AFTER SCHOOL

Engine’s after school programs are designed to allow any interested youngster to attend. We employ teaching artists and certified teachers both and build creative curriculum that meets Maine Guiding Principles.

SLIDING SCALE is available for all our youth programs. We ask that you use the guidelines here to determine what to pay. Join professional actor and educator Courtney Wood for our 5-week children’s theater workshop which will culminate in a performance in front of a packed house. The workshop will focus on teaching theatrical technique and skills. Courtney will choose the play based on the number of performers that register.

FULL COST: $180 per student. Sliding scale applies.

Ages 8+. Younger students will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Workshop time/days: 5pm-7pm Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays for five weeks.

It’s a rigorous schedule, we know, but it’s THEATER! Absences are ok as long as Courtney knows in advance so she can cast accordingly.

Dress Rehearsal: Friday March 8 at 6pm (Red Carpet Walk + Meet & Greet at 5pm)
Performance: Saturday March 9 starting at 2pm (call at 1pm)

Workshop location: To be held mostly at Engine, 128 Main Street with some possible location changes due to scheduling conflicts.

About the instructor Courtney Wood: Actor and theater educator Courtney Wood has extensive teaching experience, having worked with the Missoula Childrens Theater, Community Theater of Greensboro, Berkshire Theater Group, Winfield Children’s House Montessori, and for Falmouth Elementary and Middle School.

Our new STEAM ED After School program for ages 8+ starts February 25 and runs Monday through Friday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Each day’s activities correspond with the letters in STEAM–science, technology, engineering, art/design, math.

Each session is $25 ($20 each with a pre-paid STEAM ED Discount Card).

Our Pay-What-You-Can Sliding Scale Policy still applies. Drop ins welcome, registration encouraged.

Learn how to use Tinkercad by making a 3D printed name tag that you can wear every time you join us for some after school STEAM fun.

2/27- ENGINEERING WEDNESDAY / RESERVE A SPOT
Learn how to engineer helicopters using everyday desktop items like rubber bands and paper clips.

2/28- ARTS THURSDAY / RESERVE A SPOT
Let’s get creative and repurpose some cardboard into stamps. We will then take those stamps and learn the basics of block printing.

Create a beautiful tetrahedron cluster and learn a lot about geometry along the way!

Learn the basics of LED technology by creating a light up helicopter from recycled mailing envelopes.

Learn the basics of Tinkercad by making your very own custom designed cookie cutter.

Learn about the different colors found in nature by making paint with fresh berries.

Let’s have a fun lesson in air powered thrust and inertia by making a propeller powered car. We’ll create a challenging race track using cardboard and have some fun races.

Let’s practice the ancient art of origami by creating some colorful intersecting planes in a 3D place.

3/22- MATHEMATICS FRIDAY / RESERVE A SPOT
Learn how to use a computer and some math to create animated GIFs and HTML5.

3/25- SCIENCE MONDAY / RESERVE A SPOT
Today we’ll learn how to make a kazoo out of rubber bands and popsicle sticks. We will then have some fun making music with our homemade instruments.

3/26- TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY / RESERVE A SPOT
Let’s get creative and make a PSA using stop motion animation, a film making technique that makes inanimate objects appear to move on their own.

3/27- ENGINEERING WEDNESDAY / RESERVE A SPOT
Let’s get creative and engineer a Biddeford inspired marble run out of cardboard

3/28- ARTS THURSDAY /  RESERVE A SPOT
Learn how fossils are made without having to wait 100 years. We will create our own mold and cast fossils, then pretend we are Maine archaeologists and study the fossil.

Let’s explore the lost art of using compasses by making our own by using math and a few household items.
