July ArtWalk: ‘Carnivore’ + Open Call for GESTALT

Art and creativity enthusiasts,

This Friday July 16 from 5:30 – 7:30pm I will be at Engine for Biddeford’s second ArtWalk of 2021. I enjoyed meeting so many of you last month, and look forward to sharing with you what artists, makers, youth and community members have created so far this year with the support of our programs!

The ArtWalks is an opportunity give you a closer look at the work of the more than 40 artists and makers that call Engine’s affordable studios and community darkroom their creative home. This month I am excited to host visiting artists Meghan Frederick and Kate Seethaler to perform their ongoing duet project ‘Carnivore’. ‘Carnivore’ explores the imaginative life of the material body through movement and sound. Their installation experience will utilize several of Bidderford’s natural/industrial spaces as catalysts for considering the natural/designed body in choreography. The audience will be invited to mobilize along with the performers (no dancing necessary), finding opportunities to drop into the sensorial world of the work via embodied empathy.

There is limited space available in this year’s Youth Summer Camp Program running in August, including children’s theatre, animation, comics & cartoons for middleschoolers, and portfolio preparation for aspiring teen artists.

We also have an open call to art for GESTALT with submissions due July 25 – a film photography exhibition curated by Julie K. Gray and Tina Johnson that will be on view September – October in Engine’s gallery.

We need at least 200 people to fill out surveys to shape the work of the Biddeford Cultural Coalition moving forward. We know that you can help us reach that goal!Welcome to all the recent new members that have joined Engine’s community of people creating cultural vitality in southern Maine. Become an ENGINEER today and support Engine in our important work!

We can’t do this without you. I am so glad you have chosen to support art, creativity and expression in our community when we need it most.
